Holiday Gift Making!

  

So we have officially kicked off the holiday season! And although I confess I did partake in some Black Friday shopping, I am determined to find inexpensive ways to provide excellent gifts for family and friends. So on the eve of Turkey Day (more commonly known as Thanksgiving) I was surfing for deals and found a coupon code for an online printing company and thought wow, I will get some things for really cheap here. Well, I found some t-shirts that the Catching Fire fans in my life would love, but when I did the math, 3 t shirts totaled over $75 and that did not include shipping! Solution: I stopped by Wal Mart and picked up some t shirts and an inkjet fabric transfer kit. I am attempting to these myself folks. And the best part will be that I will spend less than $40 and will have 6 t shirts when I am finished. Printing the transfers was easy once I decided on a design and loaded the free template provided by Avery labels. I am not sure that I will be able to show a picture of the finished products before Christmas, since some of those folks on that list visit this site, but I will share after they have been given as gifts.

This is just the start of my month long prep for Christmas and finding less expensive ways to provide great gifts. Hoping to add even more, and possibly give some inspiration to others. Happy Holidays and let the gift making begin! :)

We have found a great new site that is quickly gaining some buzz around it. It is freester and it is awesome. *Remember my post a few weeks ago about redeeming all those reward points from your hotel stays for gift cards for the holidays. Well, my Bath & Body Works gift cards I redeemed my points for arrived in the mail this week. So excited they may it in time for all the Black Friday fun.

* Also received our free sample of Airborne along with a coupon. This was another Target freebie.

* Scotch had a facebook promo a couple of weeks ago where we were able to score a free sample of their sticky/ adhesive tabs. We received these this week, as well as coupons for future Scotch purchases.

Elf on the Shelf fans, set your DVRs. "An Elf's Story" will be on CBS Friday, Novembe 29 from 8:30 to 9 pm. Perfect way to introduce your new elf or make your former elf's return. I had seen that Target was offering a $5 gift card when you purchase an elf on the shelf set on Black Friday (unfortunately I cannot find it right now, but if I locate it I will post it here). Big Holiday Wal Mart News

  

According to Wal Mart's CEO, Black Friday is their "superbowl" and they intend to win. So they have rolled out some big announcements to go along with that. They have two programs going now which will help them in their quest to reign supreme for holiday shopping.

The first is the Christmas Ad Match program. If you purchase an item at Wal Mart between November 1st and December 24th and then find it cheaper in a competitor's print ad, they will give you the difference back in a gift card. You can learn more about this program on their Wal Mart Christmas Ad Match page.

The second program to help them win this "game" is their Black Friday Ad Match. Starting November 22, Wal Mart will be rolling back tons of prices on top items to match Black Friday prices of their competitors like Target and Toys R Us, among others.

Some examples of the pre-Black Friday sale prices, which will be available online and in store starting Friday, while supplies last, include:

* Create a moment: carve a few minutes out of your daily routine to visit with a vet, babysit for a military mom, any way you can think up to create a moment that will positively impact a military family.

* Volunteer a moment: the USO is dependant in large part on its volunteers. You can visit www.uso.org/get-involved.aspx to learn how you can share your time.

* Host a fundraiser: you can host your own USO Dance for the Troops event in your community. Check out the details at www.USOdance.org.
